I worked on this DLO with Ma'ata, Calvin, Sylis, and Lyric.

Our maths focus yesterday was geometry. To help us with this we did a coordinates challenge were you have to follow the directions. If it says 6, 3 you have to go across first then you have to go down to get the correct mark. I think I found this easy because I have worked with coordinates before and it came up with a weird picture.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For our self management we played the Google Logo Game. In this game I have used resilience. I didn't quit I tried my best to go to the next level. For this game I had to use codes so that the bunny was able to eat all the carrots that is set for him. After finishing that level you go to a more challenging level that has more carrots.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This year was the year 8's second time going to tech at Tamaki College. This year I did: food tech with Mrs Heka, graphics with Miss Ferguson, and hard materials with Mr Grundy. They were all great but my favorite is food tech. In food tech we made really nice food. The first thing we made with Mrs Heka was kebabs and potato salad. With Ms Ferguson we learnt how to make a clock. With Mr Grundy we learnt how to make stained glasses. We also learnt how to cut glass. I have learnt many skills from these activities like how to make: stains glasses, clocks, and different foods. These were some of the many skills I learnt this year thanks to tech.Jorjahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789529392703485519noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1255971083293937567.post-35110448812433477752017-12-05T09:05:00.000+13:002017-12-05T09:05:39.338+13:00Summer Learning Journey

This year we will be looking at the past of New Zealand and the early settling here.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As usual last week we went to tech. We were finishing off our stained glasses. After tech we were invited to stay a bit longer to do a different activity. I was put in social science with Ms Apelu. My favorite part of social science was the first activity. The activity was to play this game called pursed. Because we used google maps to find what city we were in. For the second activity we used google earth we had to roll the dice and see where we landed. I landed in Mallocra, Spain. So I had to find facts that would persuade Mrs Anderson to go to Mallorca. Here is what I wrote so far:

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Dear Mrs Anderson we have been researching different locations for your next holiday. We think you should go to Mallorca in Spain. The first reason why we think you should go to Mallorca is because it is a famous landmark in Spain. The second reason is that Mallorca is in Spain.

On Monday Mrs Anderson's maths group created a DLO using any maths strategy that we wanted. Me and my partner Nickaela decided to choose this strategy because it is simple and easy to use. The questions that we were solving is: How many green triangles mama needs to make a Tivaevae. To find out what the answer to the question is listen to our Screencastify that explains how we got our answer.Jorjahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789529392703485519noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1255971083293937567.post-72873135743389572892017-11-20T09:50:00.001+13:002017-11-20T10:28:31.248+13:00Hot Money - Summarising

Mishaan and I picked this book called Hot Money and started reading up to chapter 2. After we finished reading the book we decided to do a summary about what we have read so far. We wrote down 20 important words from the text. Then we picked the 6 most important words from the 20 words. Next we formed a sentence with the 6 most important words. I really enjoyed working collaboratively with my partner Mishaan.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Today for Kiwi Sports with Kevin, we were learning how to grip the racket for forehand and backhand, and how to control our swing and the direction of the shuttlecock. We began by practicing volleying the shuttlecock on our rackets. Then we had to get a partner and one person threw the shuttlecock and the other person had to try and hit it back to them. We then had a rally with our partner to see how many times we could hit it back and forward to each other. We also learnt about the stance to use when moving towards the shuttlecock. My partner today for badminton was Joshua V.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">On Friday Mrs Grant showed us how to use Screencastify. Mrs Grant<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> was teaching us step by step. We then started to make our screencastify's. What we did was find one of our maths DLO's to do a screencastify about and I have chosen my fractions DLO. My question is 112 + 84. Before Mrs Grant came to show us how to record using screencastify, LS2 made a script so we could be prepared and so we know what to say while we are recording about our Math DLO's. I really enjoyed learning how to make a screencastify because it is easier for me now to record about my thinking and work.Jorjahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789529392703485519noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1255971083293937567.post-73459352308881739422017-10-18T13:51:00.002+13:002017-10-18T14:28:13.726+13:00Mary Seacole

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This week my task was to research someone with a positive attitude despite the difficulties they have faced. The person that I found was Mary Seacole. I choose her because I think she has a positive attitude despite the difficulties and I know this because she was a Nurse and was injured in the Crimean war. For this activity I was working with Sakae and Ma'ata.

Our Kiwi can topic this term is facing challenges and how we can overcome them. Today we played a few games that were either easy or challenging. One of them was to bring an object to real life using your team mates. You had to have 2 people in the ring and use a idea that hasn't been used before. I think that challenge was the hardest because you only had a short time to think of a new idea.

Last week we were focusing on scale drawings. For this we drew a grid on our original image. After we had our enlargement, we drew the grids on to our enlargement paper. We had 1 cm on our original and 2 cm and ratio 1;2 on our enlargement paper. Next we drawled the original image on the enlargement paper by filling in box by box.

Last week we rotated and the Yr 8's went to hard materials with Mr Grundy. Mr Grundy is teaching us how to make stained glass. Last week we started drawing designs and this week we finished our designs and Mr Grundy gave us a board, a glass cutter, a ruler, a pliers, and a sponge of oil. Next we had to practice cutting the glass. Sadly we had to pack up and that was the end.

In the morning we had Kiwi Can with Miss Latoia, and Mr Malu. The topic for Kiwi Can this week is taking risks. For our energizer we played a game called Bip Bop Bounce Bang. Then we had to get into our Kiwi Can groups A and B. Next we went out side and played a game called hand soccer, we had to hit the ball into the goal and if we kicked the ball it would be a automatic hand over to the other team, and that was our activity for the day. Then sadly our Kiwi Can lesson was over and we were off to dance.Jorjahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05789529392703485519noreply@blogger.com0
