Pie Pastry

Today at tech we finished making our pies. Last week we made our beef pie filling and this week we made the pastry. We had to collect two types of pastry and roll them. Then we had to measure the pastry with the pie dish and cut the pastry to fit the pie dish. We then added the filling from last week into the pie and put some cheese on top. Next we had to cut more of the pastry to put on top. After that we had to make a letter or symbol with the left over pastry so that you know it's yours. The final step was to brush the egg mixture onto the pie and give the tray to Mrs Heka to put in the oven. When the pies came out of the oven we had to take a photo and then blog about our day at tech.

Beef pie filling

Today at tech we made a beef pie filling. We just made the filling for the pie then we are going to make the pastry next Friday. I had to get 1 teaspoon of corn flour and get 200mL of hot water and mix it together. Then I had to get a beef stock cube and mix it with a different measuring cup and leave it there until it has desovled and add it to the soy sauce mixture. After that I helped ma'ata with the onions then we had to go get 1 table spoon of oil and put the pan with the onions. Once the onions started to cook I added the meat and mixed it all together. Then we had to mix the soy sauce mixture with the stock mixture and pour a little amount at a time into the pan. Then we had to star adding the cornflour mixture in the pan as well to make it thicken. Me, Ma'ata and Mrs Linda all had turns at mixing the onions and beef. Then we had to turn off our stoves and put the filling into a plastic container and take it to miss hecka. Then we had to clean our stations and go on to the bus back to school.

Quiche

Today at tech we made a quiche. In our quiche was onions, bacon, eggs, and cheese. I was working on the pastry while Ma'ata and Mrs Linda were doing the eggs, bacon, onions, and cream cheese. Ma'ata had to crack the 4 eggs into the medium bowl and mix it. Mrs Linda started cutting the onions and when Ma'ata finish doing the eggs she had to cut the bacon. For the pastry I had to measure 130 grams of flour and 60 gram of butter. Then I had to get 3 Tablespoons of water. Once I had all of that I had to mix the butter and flour with my hands to make it crumble. When it was all crumbly I had to add a little bit of water at a time to make it hard and doughy so I can roll it. Then I had to start folding the dough so that when I roll the dough it doesn't go crumbly again. When I was finished folding the dough I had to roll it into a circle shape. Then we had to put the pastry into a tin foil pan and start putting the onions and bacon in.First we had to put the onions in then the bacon. Once it was spread around the pastry we had to add the eggs and cream cheese mixture on top. Final step was to add the cheese and put it in the oven to bake. While it was baking we cleaned up and got ready to back to school. Once we got our quiches we went outside and hoped on the bus to school.

Potato salad and chicken kebabs

Today at tech we made chicken kebabs and potato salad. We had to bring our own containers from home. We had to follow Mrs Heka's instructions to make the kebabs and potato salad. Mrs Heka said that we had to peel the potatoes and cut the green onions, then we had to put the potatoes in the pot with a egg so the egg can boil while the potato are cooking too. She then told us to cut the chicken in to blocks and then marinate it. Next we put the chicken on a stick and put it on the cooking tray as Mrs Heka puts the trays in the oven. After that we had to take the potatoes and the egg out of the pot and get the dressing for the potato salad. When we finished the potato salad we had to collect our chicken kebabs and put them in our container with the potato salad. The Final steps that we did was cleaning up, everyone had to pack up and get ready to go back to school. My partner for this week is Mia.
