Tech Reflection 2017

This year was the year 8's second time going to tech at Tamaki College. This year I did: food tech with Mrs Heka, graphics with Miss Ferguson, and hard materials with Mr Grundy. They were all great but my favorite is food tech. In food tech we made really nice food. The first thing we made with Mrs Heka was kebabs and potato salad. With Ms Ferguson we learnt how to make a clock. With Mr Grundy we learnt how to make stained glasses. We also learnt how to cut glass. I have learnt many skills from these activities like how to make: stains glasses, clocks, and different foods. These were some of the many skills I learnt this year thanks to tech.

Tech - Hard Materials - Stained Glass

Last week we rotated and the Yr 8's went to hard materials with Mr Grundy. Mr Grundy is teaching us how to make stained glass. Last week we started drawing designs and this week we finished our designs and Mr Grundy gave us a board, a glass cutter, a ruler, a pliers, and a sponge of oil. Next we had to practice cutting the glass. Sadly we had to pack up and that was the end. 

Week 4 Tech

Today in tech we started our second rotation of the year 2017. Last week we were in cooking but now we are in graphics with Mrs Ferguson. In graphics we are making clocks. But first we had to make a collage about ourselves and what we like. I like lots of things so I found it hard to choose what I should put on my DLO. After we had finished making our collages about our self we had to create a DLO and find images of clocks. We were only allowed to put transparent photo's on the DLO. To get the photo onto the DLO we had to drag the photo onto the drawing. Once we had finished the DLO of the clocks it was time to leave so we all packed up and we went back to the bus to go school.

Potato salad and chicken kebabs

Today at tech we made chicken kebabs and potato salad. We had to bring our own containers from home. We had to follow Mrs Heka's instructions to make the kebabs and potato salad. Mrs Heka said that we had to peel the potatoes and cut the green onions, then we had to put the potatoes in the pot with a egg so the egg can boil while the potato are cooking too. She then told us to cut the chicken in to blocks and then marinate it. Next we put the chicken on a stick and put it on the cooking tray as Mrs Heka puts the trays in the oven. After that we had to take the potatoes and the egg out of the pot and get the dressing for the potato salad. When we finished the potato salad we had to collect our chicken kebabs and put them in our container with the potato salad. The Final steps that we did was cleaning up, everyone had to pack up and get ready to go back to school. My partner for this week is Mia.

Tech

Today at Tech the year sevens did 3D sketching. Miss.Ferguson showed us how to draw a 3D box. We used Oblique drawing. We started drawing the first box and with another one going over it. Oblique is mean the side of the shape. We searched the word Isometric and we had to draw the shapes. We had to draw 1 point perspective that is the star of the shape, Rendering-3 tones. Then finally we had to draw a box and we had to color them in with our pencil light, medium dark and then we have to color the last box with the hard as you can. 

Week 5 tech

Today at tech we made a fruit salad with dark chocolate syrup. My partner was ma'ata. First I collected the fruit and ma'ata got the cleaning supplies then after we did that miss hecka told everyone how to use a knife she told us the names of knifes like a butcher knife, butter knife and a grading knife then she showed us how to cut the fruit.When she finished showing us she let us go and do our fruit. After everyone finished cutting the fruit everyone got some white chocolate and we all had to cut the chocolate in half.After that we mixed all the fruit then ma'ata got some dark chocolate miss hecka melted the dark chocolate  while ma'ata was getting the dark chocolate I went and got the cups. When everyone got back to there stations we had fill the cups. First we put some dark chocolate in and then some fruit in then some white chocolate.Once our cups where full we could eat it and it tasted yummy. After eating all for the fruit and chocolate we had to do the dishes and clean up then we got on the bus and went back to school.
