Christmas in Switzerland
To celebrate Christmas we got into groups of four and worked collaboratively to find out about Christmas in different countries all around the world. My group worked on Switzerland and we found a lot of interesting things about Switzerland like how they call their Santa Samichlaus. .To show our learning we recorded our google slides using screencastify. I worked on this DLO with Ma'ata, Calvin, Sylis, and Lyric.

Clean Up Crew
Our maths focus yesterday was geometry. To help us with this we did a coordinates challenge were you have to follow the directions. If it says 6, 3 you have to go across first then you have to go down to get the correct mark. I think I found this easy because I have worked with coordinates before and it came up with a weird picture.
Google Logo Game
For our self management we played the Google Logo Game. In this game I have used resilience. I didn't quit I tried my best to go to the next level. For this game I had to use codes so that the bunny was able to eat all the carrots that is set for him. After finishing that level you go to a more challenging level that has more carrots.
Tech Reflection 2017
This year was the year 8's second time going to tech at Tamaki College. This year I did: food tech with Mrs Heka, graphics with Miss Ferguson, and hard materials with Mr Grundy. They were all great but my favorite is food tech. In food tech we made really nice food. The first thing we made with Mrs Heka was kebabs and potato salad. With Ms Ferguson we learnt how to make a clock. With Mr Grundy we learnt how to make stained glasses. We also learnt how to cut glass. I have learnt many skills from these activities like how to make: stains glasses, clocks, and different foods. These were some of the many skills I learnt this year thanks to tech.

Social Science Studys
As usual last week we went to tech. We were finishing off our stained glasses. After tech we were invited to stay a bit longer to do a different activity. I was put in social science with Ms Apelu. My favorite part of social science was the first activity. The activity was to play this game called pursed. Because we used google maps to find what city we were in. For the second activity we used google earth we had to roll the dice and see where we landed. I landed in Mallocra, Spain. So I had to find facts that would persuade Mrs Anderson to go to Mallorca. Here is what I wrote so far:
Dear Mrs Anderson we have been researching different locations for your next holiday. We think you should go to Mallorca in Spain. The first reason why we think you should go to Mallorca is because it is a famous landmark in Spain. The second reason is that Mallorca is in Spain.

Hot Money - Summarising
Mishaan and I created this DLO because in reading we have been doing novel study's. Mishaan and I picked this book called Hot Money and started reading up to chapter 2. After we finished reading the book we decided to do a summary about what we have read so far. We wrote down 20 important words from the text. Then we picked the 6 most important words from the 20 words. Next we formed a sentence with the 6 most important words. I really enjoyed working collaboratively with my partner Mishaan.

Badminton - Week 3
Today for Kiwi Sports with Kevin, we were learning how to grip the racket for forehand and backhand, and how to control our swing and the direction of the shuttlecock. We began by practicing volleying the shuttlecock on our rackets. Then we had to get a partner and one person threw the shuttlecock and the other person had to try and hit it back to them. We then had a rally with our partner to see how many times we could hit it back and forward to each other. We also learnt about the stance to use when moving towards the shuttlecock. My partner today for badminton was Joshua V.

Writing Explanation
How children learn at school
Children are curious to know things. They learn in many different ways. If they don’t know what to do they ask for help. They watch others and copy them because learning is a big part of their lives.
They are curious to learn things because they want to be able to do it. They ask for feedback and feed forward so that they can improve in the areas they need more improvement on. They watch their friends to learn new things. They help themselves by taking risks.
They learn about things that interests them. When children take risks not only are they learning learning new things, they also get an experience of what it is like.
Children practice their skills to improve their learning. One of the things they do is ask questions and focus more. They gain knowledge from others by asking and use it to improve their skills.
Children are curious to learn things. Not all the time children know what to do so, they ask questions. They learn in many different ways. learning is a big part of their lives. They watch others and copy them.
I wrote this together with my partner Oh hsen. After we had finished we went to another pair and asked them to proof read it. We also asked them to give us feedback and feed-forward.

Screencastify
On Friday Mrs Grant showed us how to use Screencastify. Mrs Grant was teaching us step by step. We then started to make our screencastify's. What we did was find one of our maths DLO's to do a screencastify about and I have chosen my fractions DLO. My question is 112 + 84. Before Mrs Grant came to show us how to record using screencastify, LS2 made a script so we could be prepared and so we know what to say while we are recording about our Math DLO's. I really enjoyed learning how to make a screencastify because it is easier for me now to record about my thinking and work.

Mary Seacole
This week my task was to research someone with a positive attitude despite the difficulties they have faced. The person that I found was Mary Seacole. I choose her because I think she has a positive attitude despite the difficulties and I know this because she was a Nurse and was injured in the Crimean war. For this activity I was working with Sakae and Ma'ata.

Kiwi Can Challenges
Our Kiwi can topic this term is facing challenges and how we can overcome them. Today we played a few games that were either easy or challenging. One of them was to bring an object to real life using your team mates. You had to have 2 people in the ring and use a idea that hasn't been used before. I think that challenge was the hardest because you only had a short time to think of a new idea.

The Wednesday Wars

Today is read an ebook day, I decided to read this book called The Wednesday Wars by Gary D. Schmidt from the Tamaki College overdrive. This book is about Holling Hoodhood he is a seventh grader in 1967. In his school, the student body is largely divided between Catholics and Jews, and every Wednesday both groups go to their separate churches for religious classes. You can find this book on the tamaki college overdrive site.
