Since it is Maori language week our focus for today in the afternoon was to go on to this site called "Say It Tika" and it is sponsored by google maps and Vodafone. What I have enjoyed about this activity is that I got to learn a new Maori word and try and say it correctly.

Tech - Hard Materials - Stained Glass

Last week we rotated and the Yr 8's went to hard materials with Mr Grundy. Mr Grundy is teaching us how to make stained glass. Last week we started drawing designs and this week we finished our designs and Mr Grundy gave us a board, a glass cutter, a ruler, a pliers, and a sponge of oil. Next we had to practice cutting the glass. Sadly we had to pack up and that was the end.

Fans of Nancy Drew's Clue Crew will be among the readers happy to see a new Nancy join the ranks of super sleuths!

Kiwi Can - Taking Risks

In the morning we had Kiwi Can with Miss Latoia, and Mr Malu. The topic for Kiwi Can this week is taking risks. For our energizer we played a game called Bip Bop Bounce Bang. Then we had to get into our Kiwi Can groups A and B. Next we went out side and played a game called hand soccer, we had to hit the ball into the goal and if we kicked the ball it would be a automatic hand over to the other team, and that was our activity for the day.  Then sadly our Kiwi Can lesson was over and we were off to dance.

Vote For Woman - Summary

Mia, Nazella, Zahra, and I created this summary about the suffrage movement. Since woman's rights was a big issue in the olden days our reading topic this term related . We watched a youtube video about the suffragette movement and wrote a 25 word summary on "what was the suffragette movement".

Kate Sheppard

Mia, Nazella and I made a DLO about Kate Sheppard. We talked about who Kate Sheppard was?, what Kate, why she was famous. But we then had to describe what her personal qualities were using the information from different sites. We thought she was confident because she took pride in her public speeches and wasn't afraid what others thought of her. We then thought of a interesting question and answered it using this information. I think talk definitely helped us learn because we would have learning conversations about this.

Two word sentence

In writing we had a look at two word sentences, two word sentences are simple sentences. Using the simple sentence we added in FANBOYS which makes it a complex sentence which joins two simple sentences or ideas together with a connective. Using the complex sentence we used AAWWUIBBIS to make it a compound sentence.

Experience Day at Tamaki College

The Yr 8’s stayed at Tamaki College after tech for experience day. Tamaki college had given us a chance to know what it’s like and what we do at college. In maths we played battleship and had so much fun. In science we were learning about static electricity. Mr. Stoddard and Mr. Singh showed us how to bend water with static and he also showed us a cool trick that you can do with static. The last thing that they showed us in science was a cool experiment called elephant toothpaste and that experiment was awesome. Then we had lunch and for lunch they had subway, an apple, an bottle of water, and a muesli bar. Then we had English with Mr Stevenson and that was so fun, we were finding visual images to make connections with new vocabulary. Next we had PE and we played a really cool game with Mr Moyes called turbo touch. Then Tamaki College took us back school.

Why it's important to stand up to bullies

Today in inquiry we were discussing how to speak up and how to speak out if someone bullies you or you see someone being bullied. People who are being bullied should use their WITS and stand up to themselves. Sky, Nickaela, Hajera, Zahra and I have made this short film about standing up to bullies and how to help a victim of a bully.

In careers we took a test which asked what we were interested in. It gave us the option of not interested, neutral, fairly interested and very interested. Depending on what you answered they will analyse how many jobs that you could do or could be interested in. I got 125 jobs in total which was a lot of careers to choose from. I picked one job that I think I would like which was a zookeeper. The site that we were using is called Careers Quest.

Our focus today for writing was hyperbole. A hyperbole is when you use extreme exaggeration in a sentence. For example "My heart was pounding out of my chest", that is impossible but it is used to express an emotion. I wrote a story about "A hunted alleyway" home that includes at least five hyperbole. I found that putting hyperbole into my writing can make it more interesting.

How Maui slowed down the sun

Savelina and I created a comic about the myth 'How Maui slowed down the sun'. In this activity, we focused on myths and legends. In this scene is of Maui asking his brothers to help him slow down the sun. The dialogue in this comic tried to show not tell what could have been happening. The thing that I found hard to do was looking for the right background because all the choices were modern. If you would like to create a comic like mine go to the site story board that

Term 2 Reflection

I enjoyed learning about recycling because I now know how to recycle my waste and what I can and what I can't recycle. I know now what the numbers on some products mean so I can now recycle my rubbish in the right bin. I am very excited for next term because I can't wait to learn new things.

Week 9 Dance

This morning I was working with Shakaia and Sky to put our dance and the dance that inspired us on one google slide presentation. The thing that I found hard was trying to be in sync with the other and trying not to laugh a lot. What I found easy was co-operating with each other and trying new ways to make our dance look good.

Wednesday, 28 June 2017

Tongan New Years

On Monday we started doing a Matariki study and we had to do 3 different tasks. This is the first task, for this task we had to create a DLO that shows How do different cultures celebrate the winter solstice?.

After seeing this video my group had to make sure that we face the audience and make sure our moves more sharp. The people in my group are Savelina, Sky, and Shakaia. I hope you enjoy watching our film about our dance.

Week 6 Dance

In dance we first did warm ups to stretch our muscles. Then we did mirror dancing with our partner. I learnt how to do some shapes connecting to my partner. My partner for this weeks dance lesson was Savelina. I also learnt that when you mirror dance you have to pick the right song that sicks with our music.

Thursday, 1 June 2017

On Monday we started learning about fractions. Since it is samoan language week Mrs Anderson decided to do a maths question that has something to do with samoa. This DLO that I have created is about fractions. If you want to see how we solved the question about the ula lole read my DLO because it explains what we did. I hope you enjoy reading my DLO about our strategy that we used.

Week 4 Tech

Today in tech we started our second rotation of the year 2017. Last week we were in cooking but now we are in graphics with Mrs Ferguson. In graphics we are making clocks. But first we had to make a collage about ourselves and what we like. I like lots of things so I found it hard to choose what I should put on my DLO. After we had finished making our collages about our self we had to create a DLO and find images of clocks. We were only allowed to put transparent photo's on the DLO. To get the photo onto the DLO we had to drag the photo onto the drawing. Once we had finished the DLO of the clocks it was time to leave so we all packed up and we went back to the bus to go school.

Week 4 Dance

Today in dance we worked with Miss Brett, we were having fun because we were practicing our own warm ups then Mataio and Fraidon led us through their warm up. Then on the tv screen there was a video clip with two people making shapes which they combined together to make dance moves. In this dance lesson I worked with Sakae. Sakae and I were making shapes like in the video. We were a bit stuck because we didn't know how to make a circle. But we still enjoyed it. If you would like to see the video that we watched here is the link: I hope that you enjoy watching this video just like we did.

Week 3 Dance

Today in dance we had to get into our groups from last week and practice the exercises that we created last week. After we had finished doing our warm ups we all had to do Ofa's and Josh's warm up . When we finished Ofa and Josh's warm up we had to get back into our groups and try to make a triangle, square, and a circle shape with any body part. It was really hard to make the shapes because we all had different ideas but we combined our ideas to make one dance that we all liked. Today in dance we learned the difference and the meaning between a free flow dance and a bound flow dance. The people in my group were Sakae and Zahra. This week Mrs Anderson was our dance teacher.

World Of Maths

Yesterday at school after lunch we went to the hall and Mrs A put us into groups with LS1. When we were all in our groups Mrs A, Mr Ogilvie, and Charles sent all the groups to different tables. Charles is the man who works for world of maths. The First table that my group went to was Off the Islands. The people in my group were Sakae, Sila, Giovanni, and Zane. My favorite activity out of all the maths rotations was the first activity that we did called Off the islands. I liked this activity because it was really hard at first but once you really think about it you will finally get it. While we were working out the problems we had to also think about key composites. We also had to work together as a team and collaborate with each other.

Simile 2

Today for Writing we had to create a DLO and match the sentences so they make scene. This is my language feature DLO for week 3.

Friday, 12 May 2017

Yesterday in LS2 we started our kiwi sport. Our kiwi sport for this term is Taekwondo. Our instructors name is Steven. We learnt to punch and kick  really fast. We had to react fast to do what Steven said. It was really fun and at the end of the lesson we were all sweating. I hope the next eight weeks of Taekwondo will be really awesome.

Dance in LS2

In the morning and middle block we did dance.  In dance Mrs Anderson said we had to create our own warm up routine. My partners were Sa kae and Zahra we watched warm up videos to get some inspiration. Making up the moves was easy but doing them was really hard. Warming up and stretching before you have a sports event it can help you move a lot easier, but if you warm up and stretch to much you will lose some of your strength to do something. This was a very fun task to complete and I cant wait till next week.

NZ Rubbish

For inquiry this term we are learning about how we can look after our planet earth by using reduce, reuse and recycle. We found out that a report says New Zealander's are really bad at recycling. Also every year New Zealander's throw away 3.6 million tonnes of rubbish each year. We looked at two articles about what we should do to solve our waste problem. Then we made our own opinion. I agreed with article two.

Pie Pastry

Today at tech we finished making our pies. Last week we made our beef pie filling and this week we made the pastry. We had to collect two types of pastry and roll them. Then we had to measure the pastry with the pie dish and cut the pastry to fit the pie dish. We then added the filling from last week into the pie and put some cheese on top. Next we had to cut more of the pastry to put on top. After that we had to make a letter or symbol with the left over pastry so that you know it's yours. The final step was to brush the egg mixture onto the pie and give the tray to Mrs Heka to put in the oven. When the pies came out of the oven we had to take a photo and then blog about our day at tech.

Thursday, 6 April 2017

Math Solving

In maths we had to create an DLO and solve the question. The question that we had to answer is if you saved 20 litres of water each day for a week. How many litres would have you saved?. This maths DLO that I have made shows you what the questions is and how I solved it. We were allowed to use any strategy that we wanted as long as the question can be answered. We also had to write on our DLO why we used the strategy and because we used it.

Duffy Assembly

After morning tea in the hall we had Duffy Assembly. To start the duffy assembly we had to sing the duffy song read all about it. The visitors that we had at our school for the duffy assembly were Madison, Filipe, Kathrine, Bow, and Donna. Madison, Filipe, and Kathrine explained how reading helped them get to where they are now and how much fun it is to read books. Filipe, Kathrine, and Madison are also opera singers and they showed us a little performance on what they do as opera singers. After the little performance all three of them were asked to help hand out the duffy books. As soon as the book were handed out and Kathrine, Filipe, and Madison had sat down Mia asked Donna and Bow if they would like to say something so they told us about what they do at main freight. They also told us how books helped them in life at times and it was just really interesting to listen to what they had to say about books. When Donna and Bow sat down Mr Johnston said a few words and said thank you to the visitors for coming to our school and sharing there talents and thoughts of books with us. To finish the duffy assembly off we took a group photo and had to wait quietly for our teachers to take us back to class.

Kokako Lodge Diary

Today I have finally finished the last task for our camp. My Kokako Lodge diary is the last and final task that I have done and there will be no more DLO's about camp on my blog. I have used flip snack to make my diary and am really proud of my self because I learnt how to use flip snack all by myself. My diary explains what we did on the four days at camp. If you would like to have a look at the website flip snack here is the link: I hope that you enjoyed my diary and I also hope that you have fun exploring flip snack.

Kokako Lodge Brochure

These brochures I have made are part of the tasks that we have had to create for our camp tasks. I had to make two google drawings and fill them with information about Kokako Lodge. We had to make two google drawings for the inside and the outside of the brochure. The inside of my brochure is the DLO with the photo of our class Room LS2 at camp and the outside of my brochure is the drawing with the Kokako Lodge logo on it.

Kokako Bird Infographic

Another one of the camp tasks that we had to create was an infographic of the kokako bird. This DLO that I have made tells you the habitat of the bird, the appearance, and some facts. The pictures that are on my DLO are also attributed so you can have a look at the licences and sites they comes from.

Picture Story

Since we got back from Kokako Lodge we have been doing camp DLO's every day for the past two weeks. One of the DLO's we had to create was a picture story. We had to find images that best described what we did, and needed to find photos from day one, day two, day three, and day four. I chose these photos because they show and describe what activities we did, how we did them and the fun we had.

Beef pie filling

Today at tech we made a beef pie filling. We just made the filling for the pie then we are going to make the pastry next Friday. I had to get 1 teaspoon of corn flour and get 200mL of hot water and mix it together. Then I had to get a beef stock cube and mix it with a different measuring cup and leave it there until it has desovled and add it to the soy sauce mixture. After that I helped ma'ata with the onions then we had to go get 1 table spoon of oil and put the pan with the onions. Once the onions started to cook I added the meat and mixed it all together. Then we had to mix the soy sauce mixture with the stock mixture and pour a little amount at a time into the pan. Then we had to star adding the cornflour mixture in the pan as well to make it thicken. Me, Ma'ata and Mrs Linda all had turns at mixing the onions and beef. Then we had to turn off our stoves and put the filling into a plastic container and take it to miss hecka. Then we had to clean our stations and go on to the bus back to school.

The Mysterious Walkway

I started feeling nervous. All I could see was the light from torches going on and off as we made our way along the gravel pathway that took us into the darkness.

As we crossed the bridge all I could hear was the sound of a waterfall rushing to the pool below. Everything around me smelt damp. My torch light showed the stairs in front of me. I grabbed the handrail and gripped it tight as other people's voices got louder and louder. Everyone sounded scared!

I started to see a light. As I walked closer I saw that the light was from our camp. The night walk was fun but I was happy to be back in the light until I saw the size of the cricket on the deck! I got a big fright when it flew onto my shirt. I quickly flicked it off.

Today we had to write a recount about an activity that we did a camp. I chose to write about the night walk. I have explained what I have heard, what I have seen, and what I could feel. For my plan I used the y chart and the TREE template.

Conserving Water

On Friday Sa Kae, Shakaia and I started this DLO. The question that we had too ask our self was, People living Auckland have been ask to conserve water but why. Our DLO Shows our learning and thinking about the question we were given. It took a little bit of time to figure out what we were going to write about but in the end we figured it in the end. I have always loved inquiry. So tell me how can people living in Auckland conserve water and how?

Bush Safety

Today we had to make a DLO on bush safety. This DLO is for our camp because next week we are going to kokako lodge for camp. This presentation shows 5 simple bush safety steps. In this activity I worked with Ma'ata. I hope you enjoy reading our presentation.

Hunua Rangers

We have been getting ready for camp. In this DLO we had to find a map that shows Papakura, Hunua rangers, and our school. We had to label our house, the kokako lodge, the Papakura wave pools, and our school.

Saturday, 11 March 2017

Today at tech we made a quiche. In our quiche was onions, bacon, eggs, and cheese. I was working on the pastry while Ma'ata and Mrs Linda were doing the eggs, bacon, onions, and cream cheese. Ma'ata had to crack the 4 eggs into the medium bowl and mix it. Mrs Linda started cutting the onions and when Ma'ata finish doing the eggs she had to cut the bacon. For the pastry I had to measure 130 grams of flour and 60 gram of butter. Then I had to get 3 Tablespoons of water. Once I had all of that I had to mix the butter and flour with my hands to make it crumble. When it was all crumbly I had to add a little bit of water at a time to make it hard and doughy so I can roll it. Then I had to start folding the dough so that when I roll the dough it doesn't go crumbly again. When I was finished folding the dough I had to roll it into a circle shape. Then we had to put the pastry into a tin foil pan and start putting the onions and bacon in.First we had to put the onions in then the bacon. Once it was spread around the pastry we had to add the eggs and cream cheese mixture on top. Final step was to add the cheese and put it in the oven to bake. While it was baking we cleaned up and got ready to back to school. Once we got our quiches we went outside and hoped on the bus to school.

Omaru River

Our inquiry focus for today was the Omaru River. This river is located in East Auckland, Glen Innes. Zahra and I were talking about the positive side effect of the river and the negative side effects. To share our learning we made a DLO about the Omaru River. We added Images to back up our text. The blockage was caused by wet wiped flushed down the toilet. Blockages in the river can make the water stagnant and polluted.
